Orell Schlatter/Odin Name: Orell Schlatter Vocabulary Terms:
Physical Description Orell's not exactly drop-dead handsome, but he's not ugly. He has long, thin, almost gaunt features and an air of delicacy about him. His childhood illnesses show in his weak appearance and pallid skin. His eyes are a stormy sky blue and his hair is white-blonde, cropped short. It's almost buzzed, but his hair is so fine it doesn't stick up. He stands 5'10", making him not the tallest of men, but decent in the height department. His skin is a little clammy to the touch and he doesn't seem to warm up very well, so it's not often you see him in shorts or short-sleeved shirts. He generally dresses in suits; dark blue is his favorite color to wear. Weight-wise, he's only about 65 kg, which is on the thin side, but well within average.
Orell's son Alix is the absolute center of Orell's life. He dotes on the boy like a grandparent and is extremely protective. Orell prefers a laid-back lifestyle and doesn't believe in letting himself or Alix be stressed. He's very much an idealist and a dreamer, believing that the most important things in life (besides Alix) are knowledge of a great number of books and appreciation of the finer things in life (good wine, fine coffee, custom-tailored clothes). High society is his cup of tea. Socially, Orell is gregarious enough to have all the friends he needs. He's not shy, but he is a bit of a wallflower. He prefers only to speak when the topic interests him and will consciously drop out of any conversation he doesn't want to be in. He finds meaningful human contact a satisfying hobby. About the only thing that makes Orell mad is violence. Orell hates violence. He doesn't like to fight and always advocates peace over war. He's not exactly the
Orell was born in Sweden to Pascal and Imelda Schlatter. His father was an undertaker and his mother a florist. Not terribly glorified positions, but hey, whatever brings the food home. When he was five he was sent to live with his grandparents because his mother had a mental breakdown. Orell was at first very upset, crying for hours on end and refusing to speak, but his grandparents, Valentin and Marilena, did everything they could to make him happy and comfortable and eventually he stopped crying. He was never the healthiest of children, though, probably because of his emotional state. Orell attended a fairly decent school, happy with his grandparents (though he missed his parents very much). He was fairly sociable and had a decent number of friends throughout his childhood, remaining with the same group for most of his life until he went to the University of Lüneburg in Lüneburg, Germany. Here he met another student from Switzerland, Alessandra Weibel. After completing their education they returned to Switzerland and kept in touch, eventually buying an apartment together and getting engaged. Orell and Alessandra got married when he was 24 and she was 23. A few months later, Alessandra announced that she was pregnant. Alix was born not too long after that. Alix's birth marked a great change in Orell and Alessandra's relationship. Alessandra had wanted to get an abortion, but Orell wanted to keep the child. This was only the first in a number of arguments, both serious and petty in nature, that marked the end of their marriage. When Alix arrived, Alessandra was unable to attend her usual parties and social events and Orell seemed to dote on the child more than her. So, when Alix was three, she left them both. Orell took this rather hard at first. He packed up his bags, took Alix, and left for Rome, where he found a job teaching at Castelli International. Submerged in this new culture (well, not entirely new; he'd been to Rome before) Orell quickly found things to keep his mind off Alessandra. He joined a book club, met new friends, and hung out at cafes when not with Alix (which is a rare event, indeed). A few years ago, Orell's grandparents passed away peacefully with about a week of one another. They left all of their money and belongings to Orell. It was not a huge sum of money, but it has made Orell's life much more comfortable. Orell has never reconciled with his parents and doesn't even know where they are right now. Now long after Orell inherited his grandparent's assets, he and Alix went up to their old house (which was now his) and spent a few days tying up loose ends. It was here that he met his guardians: Huginn and Muninn. They told him of his identity as Odin. Since then, Orell has done little as a senshi, mostly because he's a huge pacifist.
In normal, everyday like, Orell wears normal, everyday clothes, but is partial to blue suits. He usually wears things which are long-sleeved because he gets cold very easily. As Odin, he wears wears a sheepskin vest tucked into a black steel girdle lined with sheepskin that bears a golden eye design on the front. He has simple black pants tucked into coarse sheepskin boots extending to about three inches below the knee. On his forearms he has black steel, sheepskin-lined arm guards going from the elbow to the wrist. On his head and shoulders is draped a wolf pelt (Muninn's), the head resting on his helmet and the arms going over his shoulders, with the majority of the pelt lying on his back. He also wears a leather pouch on a long strap over his shoulder. The pouch has a raven feather tied to it and contains a set of rune stones. On his head, Odin wears a simple, round, black steel helm lined with sheepskin. (see images below)
