Senshi: Michael, the Angelus/Archangelus Leader, senshi of Vegetation
Earth Name: Mahlkiya Anna Racham, her maiden name is Perach. Most people
call her Anna rather than Mahlkiya.
Meaning: Mahlkiya- Hebrew “Queen of God”, Anna-Hebrew “favored grace”,
Racham-Hebrew “mercy” (as Michael is also the angel of mercy among other
things). Put together and rearranged a bit, I was going for “Favored queen
of grace and mercy”. Perach is Hebrew for flower, so her maiden name would
have meant “Favored queen of grace and flowers”.
Age: 20
Birthdate: November 8 (feast day of St. Michael)
Astrological Sign: Scorpio, Moon in Taurus, with Scorpio ascending (I used a
chart to make her entire zodiac structure because I enjoy doing that type of
thing ^^)
Blood Type: B negative
Family:
Mother-Dina (Dina was the name of an angel in the sphere of languages)
Perach. Dina has a dark olive complexion, curly brown hair, brown eyes, and
a body structure similar to her daughter’s. She is 47 years old and stands
at 5’6”, weighing 136 pounds. Dina grew up in a rather liberal household,
her parents were sort of modern by most standards and brought her up to be
tolerable and accepting. Dina is currently living in Yanceyville, North
Carolina, teaching Literature at Bartlett Yancey High School. Generally,
Dina is a very laid back woman who lets Anna make her own decisions and
keeps a distance from her personal life. She still tends to be a little
protective about some things though, she insists on meeting all boyfriends
before the fourth date (^^). She enjoys her job and is content with her
marriage and her life in general, though she wishes that Anna had gone to
North Carolina State University so she would be closer to home.
Father-Cyrus (Hebrew for) Perach. Cyrus is 54 years old, has dark brown
curly hair with a few gray hairs (all his daughter’s fault ^^), cut short,
green eyes, stands at 6’5”, and has an overall intimidating appearance to
most people. It was dramatically surprising to most people who knew him
when he married Dina, as he was one of the least liberal people at the time
and their personalities clashed completely. At the time he was just
starting his farm operation (Anna grew up on a dairy farm, how fun) and she
had just moved to the area to start teaching at the local high school. He
is conceivably more strict than Dina and was the one who interfered in
Anna’s life the most, often unwanted. We shall just say that he has nothing
better to do than mind her business as well as his own, which is true for a
lot of parents. He often bickers with his wife, but they do not have an
abusive relationship, it is just the kind of relationship where you are
around each other so much that you have to fight to retain sanity. He also
wishes that Anna was closer to home, so he could keep an eye on her at all
times.
Husband-David (David-Hebrew “beloved”) Racham. David is Anna’s soul mate,
or so they agree. He is 6’ 1” with a slightly thick build, he does not have
rippling abs and bulging muscles, but he is pretty sturdy. He has light
brown hair streaked with golden blond, deep brown eyes, and light tan skin,
giving him a more all-American appearance than that of Anna. He is 22 years
old and has just started his first year teaching Drama at Flemming High.
They met way back in high school when David was a junior and Anna was a
freshman. They ended up getting together his senior year and have stayed
together ever since, and even went to the same college. He is more quiet and
subdued than Anna and maybe a bit more serious and intense. However, he can
loosen up and be great fun. The only problem they are experiencing at the
moment is that David tends to be a control freak as does Anna, so they have
some things to battle out with each other sometimes, but she is convinced
that things will smooth over soon enough as they find their niches together,
as they have only been married for a month.
School: Junior at Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences,
where she is majoring in horticultural sciences (the science of producing
and using plant materials, fun ^^).
Likes: Plants (The whole plant and garden stuff will be explained in length
in the angel section, but Michael also represented vegetation), Renaissance
Faires and SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism, she’s a member of the
Kingdom of Atlantia) participation (Michael was popularized in Middle Ages
and the early Renaissance and was a favorite angel for paintings and
sculpture), the FFA (I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t know about this,
which makes me oh so sad. The FFA is a national youth organization that
promotes leadership and agricultural opportunities. For more information,
visit http://ffa.org), country music (no, it’s not evil!), cleaning up
(she’s going to be one of those evil “Clean under your bed now!” mothers),
and children, even though they are extremely messy (yes, she has a soft spot
^^).
Dislikes: Dirt and untidiness of all kinds (in other words, we have an anal
retentive OCD freak on our hands), overly controlling people (because she is
definitely a bit of a control freak herself), being dependent on someone
else (Heaven forbid that she should actually have to rely on some man!),
driving (cars are just big weapons waiting to cause accidents, she avoids
driving if possible), intolerance (she’s open to a wide range of ideas, so
why isn’t everyone else?), and getting emotional in front of people (she has
this feeling that she should composed at all times so that people do not see
her weaknesses).
Fav. Food: Kosher hot-dogs with Sauerkraut (actually kind of good if you can
get past the smell, which some people can’t). Her next favorite is probably
Ziti Primavera.
Hated Food: Pork products in general (She’s Jewish, and pork just isn’t
kosher), and leftovers (“David honey, I know that ham sandwiches get better
with age, but after about a month there are certain things that have made
their home in them that you don’t want to eat.”)
Fav. Subject: Modern Nursery and Landscape Design
Hated Subject: Calculus (being as practical as she is, she really does not
understand why she needs to know all of these complicated equations, as
there is no possible way she will ever use them in real life)
Color: Dark violet.
Hobbies: Tending to her garden, working in the greenhouse at Virginia Tech,
attending Eastern War every year (the big SCA event in her kingdom), helping
her former FFA advisor (mainly giving speeches at Leadership School and the
annual Chapter Banquet and chaperoning the yearly trip to National
Convention), just hanging out with her friends, and of course, attending
dances because she can dance really well and likes for people to see that,
because she’s a little bit of a show off.
Aspirations: Anna has plans to work in the Biotechnical branch of
Horticulture, with genetically engineering plants to have maximum
efficiency. However, she wants to spend some time on a research program
that is available, where horticultural specialists go into the rain forests
and other areas to find new plant species. She also plans on starting a
large family someday, which she is well on her way to doing (skip down to
history if you want that explained now…)
Gemstone: Topaz, the Hebrew birthstone for the month of November
History
Mahlkiya Anna Racham was born on November 8 in Danville, Virginia (the
closest hospital to her hometown) to Jacob and Dina Percham. She lived in
Yanceyville, North Carolina from the time she was born and she had a
relatively average, calm life. As a child she did your average childhood
things, she took dance lessons when she turned four, played softball
throughout her elementary school years, always longed for a pony of her own,
and basically had an all around good time, though her life was rather boring
compared to some people’s it suited her just fine to be average. She
started school when she was five years old and was one of the older people
in her class because her birthday came in November and didn’t quite make the
cutoff date for starting school. She attended Oakwood Elementary School
until she was eleven years old (6th grade) then she went to Dillard Jr. High
School for seventh and eight grade. She started cultivating her own unique
interests while she was in middle school, and became very interested in
plants and sciences in general. She was mildly popular in school, the
people she was close with were not exactly the “cool kids” but they were
good friends, and she was generally well liked. Friendships and
relationships in general figure a large part in her life, and she started
making her really true friends at this point, and she was mainly friends
with guys, finding girls to hard to get along with.
High school was the turning point of Anna’s life. Come August, Anna started
school at Bartlett Yancey High School. At first she was a little unsure of
herself at the high school level, as are a lot of freshmen who are just
starting out. She decided to take some classes that really focused on her
interests. She started Horticulture in the spring semester and instantly
she fell in love with the class and the teacher as well. Anna became
heavily involved in the FFA program at BY, not just the Horticulture aspect,
but the business and leadership aspects as well. She also started getting
involved in the SCA and Renaissance Faires when she was a sophomore, another
of her “weird” interests. Her sophomore year was really a big year for her
overall, as it was also the year she started dating her future husband,
David Racham. The year that graduation rolled around, Anna was Vice
President of the Bartlett Yancey FFA Chapter, and the Treasurer of North
Carolina’s Central Region. However, when acceptance letters came in, Anna
had a decision to make. She eventually made up her mind to go to Virginia
Technical University because of a new Biotech program starting up. Sadly,
she retired from the North Carolina FFA Association and was not able to run
for State Office. She left word for her advisor to keep her informed,
though, and to call on her whenever she was needed, which he still does.
The experiences Anna had in high school were nothing compared to her first
year of college. Even though she had several good friends in high school,
there were very few people who really understood her and enjoyed the same
things that she did. That completely changed in her freshman year. She
started immediately working in the greenhouse along with some of the other
freshmen that planned on majoring in Horticulture and met some people who
were just as fanatic about plants as she was and had the same intensity for
their field. She felt right at home her first year, and happily met up with
David Racham once again. They were already absolute steadfast friends and
had a wonderful history together, and soon enough they became an inseparable
couple. Their relationship reached a wonderful high late into Anna’s
sophomore year of college when David proposed to her. She gladly accepted
and within a year they were married (about a month before the time she is
introduced, if I’m accepted). They already have plans on starting a family
and Anna is about a month pregnant (before you think this is awfully weird
for a senshi, skip down to the angel section where I explain everything).
Anna has no idea yet that she is a senshi; she does not have a guardian and
has not run into any of the other Angelus senshi’s guardians yet, either.
However, she has found her henshin item, a small golden ring engraved with
the words “Look how this ring encompasseth thy finger” (random Shakespeare
quote, Richard III, act I, scene ii, line 204). She found it one day while
she was completing the rounds in the greenhouse, debudding roses to make
them grow faster. One of the blooms had already opened, and inside the
center sat the ring. She placed an ad in the campus newspaper reporting
what she had found, but since no one claimed it, she kept it for her own.
She now keeps it on her right middle finger.
Personality
Anna can best be summed up as a person of extremes, her emotions have a lot
to do with her actions, and she does things in the biggest way she can. She
likes to be thought of as “larger than life” and interesting, because she
likes to be admired. This also has contributed to her harsh initial image,
she wants to build up to be what she thinks people will admire the most.
Truthfully, she is kind, caring, and gentle, but she has a tough front and
likes to seem as though she is in control at all times. Because of this,
she often has problems with her social relations, as well as causes a whole
mess of stress for herself.
When you first meet Anna, you can notice that she is friendly and polite, a
little soft spoken at first, but she also has a sort of manner of letting
you know that she wants to be the one in charge. That is definitely the way
things are for her, she likes to be in charge of her self and do things her
way, she has a problem working “under” other people. Unfortunately, she
also has a habit of wanting everyone else to follow her example as well, so
she comes off as being a control freak. For an example, when she and David
first sat down to decide on when to have their wedding, she said June and he
said November. They fought for weeks over this one small thing, because
they both wanted to be in charge of the situation and they both wanted
things their way. Another example applies to her at work. When she first
started working in the greenhouse as a freshman at Virginia Tech, she was
started on grafting projects (when you take a piece of plant material and
grow it from the roots of another plant). She was shown how to do things
the way that they did it at the greenhouse, but when she started working she
did things the way she had been taught to do them and thought they worked
best. Eventually, she even had the people working with her doing things the
way she did.
She likes to think of herself as being extremely independent, but in many
ways, she relies on others more than she does herself. She has always been
the type to do things for herself, such as fixing her own lunches when she
was young, paying her own way on dates, getting the door herself, those
types of things. But really, once she gets to be friends with some one she
develops a deep passionate bond with them, and relies on them for a lot of
things. David is her comforter and she has always shared everything with
him. He helps her talk about the things going wrong in her life and
together they get through things. She believes that since she can hold the
door open herself and does not sit at home waiting for her husband to get
home from work, that she is an independent woman. In many ways she is, but
if he were to leave today, she would be lost with out him, and the same
thing goes for any of her other friends.
Anna is an intellectual person and prides herself in being educated about a
lot of things, even if they are things that no one really even needs to
know. Books and reading have always been pleasures for her, she enjoys
almost all Shakespearean works and fantasy novels. She has really enjoyed
doing her SCA activities and broadening her horizons doing the things she
does in that organization, but there is honestly no real reason she will
ever use that sort of thing in life. That is surprising, as she has a
forceful, impulsive, and practical way of thinking, and usually does not
like to tie herself up thinking about things that will have no meaning for
her life. That is part of the reason why she despises taking math at the
college level, there is no real reason that she will ever need to know
advanced calculus equations to grow plants.
One of her quirks that it is almost impossible for people not to notice is
her cleanliness obsession. If you walk into her house, you will notice the
lack of dust, dirt, and untidiness, while you are being scolded for not
wiping your feet and tracking mud onto the carpet. Her room and work
station is in military order with everything in it’s exact perfect place,
and if you happen to move something from it’s place and don’t put it back,
may heaven have mercy on your soul. This trait reflects into her clothing
and cooking as well, she always looks wonderfully dressed, even when she’s
digging in the dirt, and she can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
look elegant.
As with every one, has one absolute weakness, something for which they can
just fall completely, so does Anna. Hers is children. She absolutely
adores children in every form, even the horrible two year old toddlers who
like to yank people’s hair out. She just has a natural mothering instinct
and likes being around kids, they bring out the soft side of her
personality. Perhaps when she actually has one of her own it will bring out
the Anna that those close to her get to see every so often, the one who will
actually let her guard down and be emotional in front of other people.
Appearance
Hair-Anna’s hair is dark brown, about the color of a coffee bean (using the
computer I got the html code for the color #3D0B0B, I hope it shows up the
same for you as it does for me), with light red tints. It is naturally
curly, very thick, and voluminous. She alternates between wearing it
naturally and straightening it, both of which look nice, but natural takes
less effort on her part, so she tends to wear it that way more often. Her
hair is medium length, falling just below her shoulder blades. She wears it
down and tucked behind her ears most of the time, though when she is working
she often wears it in two braids on either side of her head (Pippi
Longstocking style).
Eyes-Her eyes are large and round and spaced a little further apart than
average. They are dark chocolate brown and often appear almost inky black,
framed by long dark lashes.
Face/Complexion-Anna’s face shape is the basic oval with a slightly
prominent chin. Her nose is a little large by most standards and slopes
upwards at the end, giving a sort of pointy shape. Her lips are rather
thick with average width. She has a medium olive skin tone, giving her a
slightly tanned appearance most of the year. She tends to go light on face
make up usually, with a little lip-gloss and a sweep of eyeshadow.
Build-She looks frail and is frail to put it simply. Standing at 5 feet and
5 inches and weighing 114 pounds, there is very little substance to her
small build. She has small bones and is naturally thin with a high
metabolism as well, making her more delicate than most. She is not
satisfied with her body frame and hates being called skinny, but her
attempts to add weight usually do not work very well. She has about a size
32 A bust and small hips, meaning no curves for this girl.
Clothing-She favors a style she calls “comfortably attractive”, meaning that
even though she dresses casually, she still tries to look nice and tidy.
Her usual outfit consists of a pair of boot cut jeans, a three-quarters
length (referring to sleeve size) tee shirt, and a pair of sneakers. While
she is working in the garden, she trades in for overalls and an old tee
shirt. Also, she often attends Renaissance Faires, which require a whole
different type of attire. She hand makes her costumes and usually picks
simple dresses in the English style. However, she does have one gown in the
Spanish style made of scarlet red jacquard which she wears to special events
(particularly when the King of Atlantia visits ^^).
Jewelry-Anna absolutely adores jewelry items, mainly rings. She always
wears her graduating class ring (gold with an topaz stone) on her right ring
finger along with the ring she found in the garden, also known as her
henshin ring worn on her middle finger. On the left hand ring finger are
her engagement ring (a band of gold with a tiny almost microscopic diamond)
and wedding band (gold with the words “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is
mine” engraved in Hebrew), worn at all times. She has a thing for engraved
rings, and she often wears as many as three other rings engraved with
various sayings from different languages. Some examples include “God could
not go everywhere, so he created mothers” (an early baby shower present from
her mother), “Anam cara” (Gaelic for “soul friend”), “A Ma Vie De Coer
Entier” (French phrase “you have my whole love for my whole life”), among
numerous others. She also has two piercings in each of her ear lobes and
two in her left ear cartilage.
Fuku
The body suit of Michael’s fuku is a dark purple corset, or a sleeveless
bodice that “laces” up with hook and eye fasteners down the front of it.
The corset ends in a point at the lower waist and sits over the bottom of
her body suit, which sort of resembles the bottom of a bathing suit and
cannot be seen unless her skirt flies up. It is attached to an amber colored
skirt that flows to her calves, but is slit up to the corset on both sides.
The top part of the fuku is a hooded cloak made of amber colored material
that reaches down to her ankles. It connects to her choker, a piece of
purple ribbon with a topaz dangling from it’s center to tie around her neck.
Her gloves are not complete gloves per se, they are close fitting purple
colored sleeves that start just below her shoulders and end at the wrists,
with a small piece of fabric extending and hooking around her middle
fingers. Her tiara is actually a circlet to be more SCA correct, it is a
thin band of gold adorned with topazes that fits around her head, resting
just above her brow line. Her shoes are soft leather slippers, colored
purple.
Transformation
Anna thrusts her right hand into the air and shouts “Michael Archangelus
Power, make up!” Her henshin ring glows with an amber light for a few
seconds and then shatters into thousands of small pieces of glitter. The
glitter starts to swirl around her, encasing her in a glowing whirlwind.
Then pieces of glitter magically sprout into large purple blooms, so that
she is completely surrounded by a moving wall of flowers and for a few
seconds can no longer be seen. Suddenly the wind stops and the blooms fall
to her feet, leaving her standing with her hands in fists on her hips and
the hood of her cloak pushed back from her face. If you look closely you
will also notice that her ring is back on her finger intact.
Powers
Cyclone blooms-Sailor Michael stands facing her opponent with her hands in
fists on her hips. She throws her left fist into the air and calls out
“Cyclone…” as she begins to whirl around in a circle at high speed. After
about seven full turns, she suddenly stops and yells “blooms!” She throws
her fist forward and a whirlwind swirls out from her. However, this is not
your windtunnel, instead it is made up of different types of flowers
spinning around in a cyclone together. The whirlwind wraps itself around
her opponent, pelting them with flowers. The attack typically lasts for up
to 30 seconds and does not do a huge amount of damage, unless you get
smacked in the face by a giant sunflower or something ^^. It mainly causes
some bruises and scrapes, and a lot of confusion for a moment. The attack
is not extremely draining on Michael and she can perform it up to about five
times per battle. After that the attack starts to lose a lot of power.
Guardian: none (and you thought I was going to say bird)
Star/Myth/Angel
Well, I had a few reasons for picking Michael as my angel. First of all, I
wanted to have an angel because Hebrew legend is currently my obsession
(others at the time include Celtic and Norse, which aren’t available yet
*sniffle*), and I was going to play Gabriel at first. I have been in
several RPGs where I have played Gabriel, as she is my guardian angel and
the one I know most about. However, I decided that I would prefer to do a
different angel this time around, so I turned to the other well known angel,
Michael. Michael is one of the two angels mentioned in the Bible (the other
is Gabriel), and there is a lot known about him, as he is the chief of the
archangels. It took me a while to decide on what to make her (though
Michael is a male angel, I wanted a female character) chief power, as
Michael seems to be the angel of dozens of different elements. Finally I
decided on vegetation, as Michael is one of the four elemental angels, the
one in charge of the Earth. Several other references in the application
came from Michael’s other power spheres, particularly mercy, where her
married name comes from, and life. The representative to the element of
life is in her being pregnant, which I thought was one of the best ways to
express life—new birth. That element also ties into her joy for plants and
gardening, as plants are necessary to life on this planet. I hope this
explains some of the weird things in my app.

Anna Racham sat on her knees in her flowerbed, patting a fertilizer mix
around her prized camellia bushes. On the patio deck above sat her radio,
tuned to the local country station. As she smoothed the bedding mix around
her Camellia Sasanquas, she softly crooned along with the Garth Brooks song
that was playing. “The dance we shared beneath the stars above…” her voice
trailed off as she breathed a sigh of satisfaction. “Well, I guess I’m done
for the day,” she said to herself, climbing to her feet and surveying the
expanse of well-groomed yard before her. She and David had a rather nice
sized yard for a house in the suburbs, and Anna did her best to keep it
looking perfect. With a small grove of oaks framed by large camellia bushes
and a lofty Southern Magnolia shadowing the small creek running through the
back, the yard looked almost picturesque. Anna pulled off her gloves and
brushed the dirt off of her overalls as she headed in through the patio
doors.
Freshly changed out of her dirty work clothes and into jeans and a long
sweater, Anna breezed through the hall and into the kitchen. To her dismay,
she found that her less than neat husband had fixed himself and sandwich and
had not found the initiative to clean up his mess. She walked over to the
counter, narrowing her eyes in a displeased look as she reached for a
cookie. After taking a bite, she called out, “David, I don’t just exist to
clean up your messes you know!” She popped the rest of the cookie in her
mouth and started tightening the lids on the jars. “And honestly, David,
peanut butter and pepperoni? Where did you get the taste for such
combinations?”
David walked in from the adjoining living room and came up behind his wife,
wrapping his arms around her waist. “What can I say?” He asked with a
shrug, “I just have a taste for the weird.”
Anna giggled. “Are you saying that I, of all people, am weird?”
“Well, maybe not weird, just not normal,” he smiled down at her. “You’re
special, that’s what I like about you.”
“You’re ‘special’ too,” she wrinkled her nose in a look of distaste, “and
messy.”
“Well, you’re just a neat freak,” he started to pull her backwards into the
living room. “Look at you, you’re dropping cookie crumbs, couldn’t you just
die?”
“I could,” she faked a sob. “My precious carpet!”
“Oh forget the carpet,” he plopped down on the couch and pulled her small
frame down next to him. “What are you going to do when you have a baby
running around leaving sticky fingerprints on the walls?”
“I’ll be absolutely devastated the first year, but then I’ll get used to it
and every thing will be okay. Until he learns the meaning of the word
‘mud’,” she shuddered. “I can’t bear to think what may happen then.”
“You mean she.”
“No, I want a boy, so I can name him Jaren.”
“Well, I want a girl named Rebekah.”
“Nah, girls are too easy to spoil, and they grow up hating their mothers,”
she nodded. “It’s a common fact.”
“But boys spoil easy too, and I want some one to call ‘daddy’s little
girl’. Jaren would just be mama’s boy.”
“So, there’s nothing wrong with that,” she poked him in the stomach and
giggled. “You’re a mama’s boy.”
“And look how I turned out, I’m such a bad little boy spilling crumbs on
your carpet.”
“I like you well enough, and I want a boy so he can grow up to be just like
you,” she gave him a little kiss.
“Well, when you put it like that, I have to hope it’s a boy too.”
