Senshi: Sailor Uriel, Angelus/Archangel Senshi of Salvation
Acacia: Salvation, eh...?
Rach: Thats a new one, I like it!
Earth Name: Elaine Santos
Rach: Woohoo, it sounds normal!
Tri: Santos reminds me of Santa Claus. ^^
Meaning: light of the saints
Elaine, English, light (variant of 'Helen')
Santos, Spanish, the saints
Emiko: Obviously.
Rach: Considering how she is Salvation, that meaning is really fitting.
Age: 15
Birthdate: September 26th
Astrological Sign: Libra
Blood Type: A
Family:
Carlos Santos, father, 56 years old
The CEO of an upscale communications company, Carl has managed to stay
close
to the top. He is a very determined man, and he keeps himself up-to-date
on
technology and current affairs. His children are often helpful in this
task.
Carl likes to spend lots of time with his kids, and he schedules his
workday
around their schedules so he can attend school functions and other cool
things. He has also been known to cook dinner every once in a while. He
is
Hispanic, but his kids haven't really picked up many of his physical
traits.
Tall, with graying black hair and dark brown eyes.
Acacia: Reasonable age for parents too. Most people have them in their
thirties and forties.
Rach: Yup! ^^, realistic stuff rules.
Tri: My mom built a Gundam, is that realistic?
Rach:... .... .... not really.
Dr. Daphne Santos, mother, 46 years old
Daphne is a cardiologist, and she is renowned for it. She spends much of
her
time at the hospital, and she rarely has any free time. She loves her
family
dearly, but she can't say no to the hospital (and they take advantage of
that). She is always trying to get a little time off, but something
always
comes up at the last minute and ruins it for her. Time has made her
wearier,
and her beauty reflects that. On bad days, wrinkles are more obvious.
Carl
still insists that she's beautiful, though. She has light blonde hair
(which
all of her children inherited), and green eyes. Stands at 5'7", with a
slender figure. Her parents live in Salem City.
Jennifer Santos, sister, 20 years old
Attends Hollins University as a senior. Jenni, as the oldest child, set
the
standard for her younger siblings, and that standard is pretty high. In
grade school, she skipped two levels, and she took accelerated programs
in
high school. Eventually, Elaine and Isaac quit trying to catch up with
her.
Jenni's intelligence has gotten her far, but her common sense is somewhat
defective. She gets lost easily, and she sometimes forgets the simplest
things. She lives in her own apartment, with an extremely goofy roomie
named
Brenda Nangila. She goes to Hollins on a full scholarship,
Emiko: Like she needs it. Doctor mother...
Rach: TO MANY DOCTORS!!!
Emiko: After this doctors will be ground for rejection. :P
earning money
on
the side by writing freelance articles and essays. Her hope is to become
a
political journalist. Wears her light blonde hair long, reaching to her
hips, and has her mother's green eyes. She's the shortest of the family,
standing at 5'4".
Isaac Santos, brother, 18 years old
Attends North Cross School, grade 12. Of the three children, he got the
short end of the stick when it comes to brains. Of course, that doesn't
mean
that Isaac is a moron, but he doesn't have the intelligence of either of
his
sisters (though Elaine is lacking compared to Jenni). He was kept back in
kindergarten because his teacher felt that he was not emotionally stable
enough to move ahead. And so, Isaac became the typical 'macho' guy -
focusing on sports rather than academics. Daphne blames it on the school.
As for the smarts that Isaac does have, he settles on B's in his classes,
which
keep him at North Cross. His only real problem is any type of
mathematics,
and he has recently been forced to find a tutor. He plays a new sport
each
season: fall is football, winter is swimming, spring is baseball. Isaac
has
the same light blond hair as his siblings and dark brown eyes. He's
taller
than his father now, standing at 6'3"
Lorinda Sherman, 41 years old
The maid/cook of the Santos household. Lorie is included because she
technically lives in the house. She has her own room behind the garage,
in
return for cooking and cleaning. She has every Sunday off and she usually
spends the day in Valley View Mall. Lorie has no living relatives, and
she
considers the Santos' as her family; she has been with them since Elaine
was
born. Usually a calm, reserved woman, she doesn't talk much about life
before moving in with the Santos'. She has some Hispanic features, such
as
darker skin and straight, black hair, but her eyes are bright blue.
School: North Cross School, grade 10
Emiko: Hoo-yah! Looking good!
Tri: Yah! Its... well... real.
Likes: compromises, sleepovers with her friends, prayer, dressing up,
children
Rach: Dressing up? *Cackles*
Felice: She likes children! We have something in common! Wanna date?
Dislikes: arguments, going places by herself, missing church, people who
swear too much
Tri: Beware, Jace.
Fav. Food: any kind of fruit (especially berries)
Hated Food: any seafood (she's allergic)
Fav. Subject: Humanities
Acacia: Good choice.
Hated Subject: anything to do with computers
Acacia: I'm no better. Ah well... ways of the world...
Rach: Original!
Tri: Humanities? You all suck 'cause you have to go to school! Nyah!
Color: Indigo
Tri: *Cheers*
Hobbies: playing golf (school team), reading fairy tales (the ones edited
to
be saccharine), shopping with her friends, babysitting
Aspirations: Elaine hopes for one thing -- she wants to fall in love and
live happily ever after. How disgusting is that? All she wants is a
handsome, caring husband and a family of her own to raise. Her mother
thinks
she should be a pediatrician,
Felice: I'd hire her as an assitant, ^^, then we could get married!
Tri: Keep dreamin', Felice.
and her father has suggested becoming a
teacher, since she likes kids. Elaine, currently, is not interested in a
career of any type. She figures that if she isn't married by the age of
25,
she'll join a nunnery.
Acadia: How refreshing.
Emiko: Though revolting on a personal level at the same time.
Rach: Nah, I liked it. *Pokes Emiko*Stop being so mean.
Gemstone: amethyst (favorite stone)
History:
Elaine was born in Albany, New York,
Emiko: Another New Yorker. Don't we have two of those?
Rach: Leta is, and someone else. LETA WAS FIRST!!! GO AWAY!
but her parents moved the family to
Virginia when she was still an infant. Daphne had grown up in Virginia,
so
Roanoke became the new home to the Santos family. Elaine has mercifully
lived a life without trauma and devastation, for which she is very
thankful.
Of course, living a sheltered, protected life has turned Elaine into
something of a sissy. Okay, maybe she is just a sissy, but, anyway . . .
She has attended North Cross for her entire Academic career, and she
loves
it. She feels protected there. Sometimes, she's a little fearful of kids
who
go to public schools and sticks with her little pack of NC chums --
strangers make her nervous. At NC, she is considered Isaac's 'kid
sister',
but she's never picked on, since Isaac will raise Cain on whoever does
so.
Religion is a big part of Elaine's life. While her parents are Catholic,
Acacia: WOOHOO!!
Rach: I want an old granny Jew with a bad attitude that smokes and has a
fro.
Tri: Like in the 'Nanny'?
Rach: Basically.
they don't attend church every Sunday (or hardly any Sunday . . .), and
her
siblings both consider themselves Catholics, but not in a worshipping
way.
Elaine holds the candle of religion in the family, so to speak. If she
misses church, she makes up for it by fasting for a day or something. She
reads an excerpt from the Bible every night, from her little 'Precious
Moments' Bible that she's had since she was about six years old.
Elaine began to play golf when she was seven, thanks to her maternal
grandparents. Both of them are avid golf players, and one day, while
babysitting the kids, they thought it would be fun to take them golfing.
Elaine was the only one who showed any interest in it. She joined the
golf
team at North Cross when she entered high school, and she has become a
valuable asset to the team.
So, Elaine's life has been pretty boring so far (the inclusion of golf is
proof of that . . .) She's had a couple of boyfriends, but nothing
serious,
much to her dismay. Elaine wants a serious relationship in which she can
be
a nurturing girlfriend and have a nice, strong boyfriend to take care of
her. (meanwhile, feminists everywhere have a series of conniption fits)
The only really traumatizing moment in Elaine's life was when she nearly
died as a result of an allergic reaction to shrimp. At age six, it was
hence
discovered that Elaine is allergic to seafood. The allergic reactions are
so
great that Elaine can't even walk into a room where fish has been cooking
without feeling constriction in her throat. When she was little, Elaine
believed that anything having to do with fish was evil, including water.
She's gotten over that now, mostly. She still hates swimming.
Obviously, Elaine knows nothing about her identity as Sailor Uriel, as
she has no guardian.
Emiko: Ha! Her obvious religious fanaticism is great!
Rach: Yup! The whole history was great, ^^.
Personality:
Elaine is a feminist's nightmare. She is afraid of this big, dark world,
and
she feels that having someone to protect her would be so much better.
Seriously, Elaine is a bit of a wuss. She likes everything to be peaceful
and happy and essentially pretty darn boring. She doesn't shake in fear
at
everything, but she doesn't want to face the world alone. She loves
chivalry
and is skeptical of males who do not practice it.
Emiko: ::stares at a few of the other characters::
Tri: *Stares at Duo*
Duo: WHAT!?
Tri: *Snicker*XD, I love seeing you squirm.
Leta: *Stares at Felice*
Felice: Wanna date?
Leta: *Falls*
Despite this, she has a
tendency to admire women who have strong personalities and don't need
anyone
to protect them, but she won't admit this to anyone.
Tri: Then she must adore me. And hate Bianca.
Rach: Speaking of which, Emiko, tell yer friend to hurry up, >.<..
Emiko: He has the flu! ;_; Hey! Story idea!
Often labeled as a goody-two-shoes, Elaine has never done anything really
exciting in her entire life. Isaac thinks she is incredibly immature, and
he
hates to be around when her friends visit for a sleepover. Really, Elaine
is
not immature; she's just young and still a bit unsure of herself. Her
closest friends are a lot like her, but sometimes even they don't
completely
understand Elaine. She can be just a little 'odd' sometimes.
Elaine is a devoted Catholic. She goes to church every Sunday, hitching a
ride with her neighbors (the Hardings, friends of the family). She prays
over any meals she eats, and she prays before going to bed. Unlike the
stereotypical Catholic, Elaine is often tolerant of things that are
considered taboo, and she knows where she stands, which is probably one
of
the few things she's actually sure of. Although tolerant of other
religions
(including pagan ones),
Emiko: Hoo-yah!
Rach: What does pagan mean?
Emiko: ::hits Rach over the head with a dictionary::
she is wary of them. She also finds that they
sometimes are condescending to her because of her own beliefs.
Emiko: Erg... she's got me there...
Normally,
she
avoids conversations about religion, because people are very defensive
about
their beliefs and someone always ends up trying to convert someone else.
Emiko: All follow the Holy Mackerel!
Tri and Rach: *Come out dressed in monk robes chanting*Holy Mackrel, Holy
Mackrel.
Tibby: I take the time to point out that that's a church you invented and you worship a fish...
Leta: TTIIBBYY! *GLOMP!*
Tibby: ::cringes:: Smeggy Americans...
Emiko: Hey, how many religions support cannibalism among mackerels? It's a mackerel eat mackerel world out there!
Tibby: ... And your Holy Fish lives on a mountain.
Emiko: What's wrong with a fish out of water?
Tibby: We'll discuss this later.
Rach and Tri: Holy Mackrel, Holy Mackrel.
At
least, this is Elaine's experience.
Although generally demure and a bit soft-spoken, Elaine believes that
people
should always look on the bright side of things and enjoy life while
they're
still on Earth. For her optimistic attitude, Jenni has nicknamed her
"Renaissance", and Elaine wears the name with pride.
(creator's note: why did Jenni nickname her little sister "Renaissance"?
Well, without getting into a history lecture, the Renaissance in Europe
brought people out of the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, people
didn't
have the best of lives - everything was virtually unknown, and they just
were who they were. There was little purpose in life. During the
Renaissance, that all changed. People began to live life to the fullest,
reading became more important, and people were generally much more
cheerful.
Elaine relates to that kind of attitude, and Jenni simply put it into
perspective.)
Acacia: Makes sense.
Tri: Yup.
Appearance:
The word 'beautiful' has never been used to describe Elaine,
Leta: 'Course. Everybody is to busy using it on me, ^^.
Tri: Quiet, flap ears.
Leta: Shaddap, shorty. *stares at her from a whole 8 inches larger height*
but the word
'pretty' has revolved around her before. She wears her light blonde
Rach: BLONDE!
hair
cut
just above her shoulders, so that it frames her heart-shaped face like a
rather large halo. Her eyes are navy blue, inherited from her maternal
grandfather. Elaine is 5'6" and weighs about 150 pounds (thought she
won't
tell anyone that). Elaine isn't naturally active and doesn't do a lot of
exercising, but she does watch what she eats. She also plays golf for
North
Cross, and she's gotten pretty good at it over the years. Her upper arms
are
the strongest part of her body, and she has an overall slender look to
her.
Elaine loves to get dressed up, and she could spend hours getting ready
for
school if she had the time. Her favorite items to wear are skirts and
dresses; she rarely wears pants, and she doesn't even own a pair of
shorts.
Why? She just prefers to wear the skirts. She won't leave the house
without
at least putting on a little bit of make-up, especially foundation. She
has
a huge collection of nailpolish, and she does her nails a new color every
night. She also has an expansive collection of jewelry, but one piece she
never goes without it her cross necklace. It's a simple silver cross on a
long silver chain, given to her by her parents on her tenth birthday.
Emiko: Okay. I sort of wish we had more description on her face and stuff... she seems sort of prettily plain. Most characters are.
Tri: I'm exquisite.
Leta: I'm just pretty, ^_^.
Fuku
The bodysuit is a two-piece white swimsuit. The top half ends just under
her
breast, and the sleeves are long, reaching all the way to her wrists,
with a
turtleneck collar. The bottom half of the suit begins just below her
navel
and is the size of a normal bikini bottom.
Emiko: You'd be surprised what passes for normal these days...
Rach: Ugh, Miami Beach flashbacks. Very NASTY Miami Beach flashbacks.
The top is a light,
translucent
vest that reaches to her thighs. It is indigo in color and has no
sleeves.
The front bow is the typical bow, attached to the bottom of the top of
the
bodysuit, violet in color. It has a brooch in the middle (see
transformation
on info). There is no back bow. The skirt is a straight, pleated skirt
reaching to mid-thighs, a little longer than the vest. It is violet in
color.
Acacia: Nice description.
Emiko: I think it seems sorta standard.
The violet gloves reach only to her wrist, meeting the sleeves of the
white
bodysuit. Her tiara is silver, with an amethyst gem in the middle. There
is
no choker. The shoes are simple indigo-colored slippers.
Rach: Alright, this was okay, so I really don't have an opinion on it. ^^;;
Transformation
"Uriel Archangelus Power, Make-Up!"
To transform, Elaine needs the brooch that sits in the middle of her
front
bow (she'll get this from one of the guardians).
Emiko: A brooch! Finally!
Rach: Whatcha mean, finally?
Emiko: I don't recall us having any brooches so far.
The brooch is
ivory-colored
and oval-shaped, and the center is embedded with a circular cluster of
amethysts. To transform, Elaine holds the brooch out in her left hand and
speaks the words. The brooch floats out of her hand and hovers, spinning
slowly. The cluster of amethysts begins to glow, and the light envelopes
Elaine, forming her fuku -- the bodysuit first, followed by the vest and
skirt, then the rest. Once the entire fuku has formed, the brooch, still
glowing, attaches to the front bow. With a final burst of violet light,
the
transformation is complete, and Uriel stands in her ending pose: her feet
together and her left arm outstretched with the palm open, her right hand
resting on the inside of her left elbow.
(heh, that's a very long sentence . . .)
Powers
"Light of Love"
This is not really an attack, per se, since it is more of a healing
spell.
Emiko: Isn't Haniel love and harmony? That wounds more like an attack Haniel might have.
Rach: I don't do angels, but Emiko is right.
Using this spell, Uriel may heal minor injuries.
Emiko: Oh. It's healing.
Tri: She said that above. 'Since its more of a healing spell'.
Emiko: I just point out that it's called "Light of Love," not "Light of Health." And Assiel is the angel of healing.
As she sits or stands
over
Tri: Sits? XD
the injured person, she places her hands together as in prayer and speaks
the words. Energy gathers over her hands, and once she feels she has
enough,
she places her hands on the wound and lets the energy flow through it.
Afterwards, Uriel is severely drained of her own energy, and she may lose
consciousness if she uses too much of her energy. This power may be used
only when Uriel has enough energy (i.e. she can use it once and then has
to
wait several hours or a day or so before using it again. She can't heal
one
wound, then turn around and heal another wound.) Uriel cannot use this
power
on herself -- she can only heal others.
Emiko: Okay, healing is sorta salvation-atory.
Tibby: Is that a word??
Tibby: Is that a word??
Leta: TIBBY!
TIbby: ::cringes:: Smeggy Americans.
Tri: Is Tibby a word??
"Heart Purification"
Again, not really an attack, mainly used for her defense. Uriel raises
her
hands above her head in prayer form and says "Heart . . ." Her hands
begin
to glow with indigo energy. ". . . Purification!" -- she lowers her hands
to
her chest and pushes the energy away from her and toward her target. The
ray
of indigo light energy can be avoided/dodged, and Uriel's aim isn't
currently the best.
Emiko: So does it move slowly or what? How big a light ray are we talking here?
If the ray does hit, the spell will take effect.
Uriel
has nicknamed this "the Hippie Attack". Essentially, once hit, the target
becomes much more mellow and complacent. Things suddenly become . . .
"groovy". They lose the desire to fight and generally just drop out of
the
fight. This attack can last from ten-thirty seconds, long enough for
someone
else to attack or for Uriel to make a retreat. For example, a hardened
fighter would only be affected for a short time, and someone with less
experience might be affected for a longer period.
Emiko: And this works with salvation how? I don't think of it as particularly defensive...
Rach: Nor I.
Guardian:
Nope, no guardian.
Star/Myth/Angel:
Uriel is one of the Archangels, and he is generally considered 'the light
of
God'. He is considered a peaceful angel and helps turn disappointments
into
blessings. In canon, Uriel teaches the light of pure love for the Spirit,
and he is one of the most devoted angels.
The colors I chose (indigo and violet) are two colors often associated
with
Uriel.
I chose to give Sailor Uriel a healing power because I just don't see the
angel as a fighter (this also goes with the second attack).
Emiko: So make a more salvation-ish attack. Salvation = saving.
Everything
I've
read about him portrays a bearer of love and spirit, and I think this
travels over to the healing power.
Emiko: Though I disagree because technically healing is a different power sphere possessed by another angel...
Sailor Uriel herself is not much of a
fighter, as she doesn't like violence, and I felt that the healing power
was
a better representation of the angel's manifestation. So, in effect,
Uriel
is more of a defensive fighter, one who supplies back up but is not on
the
front line. She's not a senshi who works well alone. If that doesn't
work,
let me know; I can always revise it. ^_^
Emiko: Um, okay, I can see your reasoning and the angel description makes
the healing make sense sorta... but I'm just not too sure about the powers. I
mean, you can probably come up with a better representation of salvation than
those two powers... Right? I'm more iffy about the second one than the first
one, but healing powers are also really common... So... er.... Think of
something more salvation-ish. Those two just don't seem to quite fit the power
base.
Writing Sample - "Daydreaming Again"
Rach: A TITLE! PRAISE THE LORD!
Emiko: Format snip. But nice writing. ^^
Acacia: Well, I like it. Move for accept?
Emiko: I likes her too, but I think the powers could be better, so I say accept with power revisions.
Tri: What they said.
